Buddy: Lee Arrendale State Prison Program the Dog needs a home

My name is Buddy. And while I am a super handsome guy that everyone says is so pretty, i will need the right family.

I lived in a home before. I'm used to being part of a family. I want to protect my family, and sometimes I meet people that for some reason, I don't like. And I will let them know that. I need a strong leader who will let me know that THEY are the boss, not me. Once I know that, I am a submissive and friendly guy- But I will try and test you! And if I get bad vibes about someone I will let you know!

I have actually gotten better with meeting strangers since spending time here at the shelter, because I'm getting used to seeing new people all the time. My last family said I didn't get along with their other dog, but I have met quite a few dogs here I like. Some, I don't. But, if I like the other dog, you'll know right away!

I'd probably do best in a home without kids right now, just at least until I find some confidence and am not so scared of new things and people.

I am currently participating in a training program at Lee Arrendale State Prison to help make me the perfect family member! I'm available for adoption at any time! Saving me lets another shelter dog come into the program too! Adopting me saves TWO lives!

Since I am in the prison, please contact the shelter so that it can be arranged for you to meet me! I'm not staying at the animal shelter right now, so the staff needs to come "bail me out" to meet you!

The mission or Forever Friends is to save dogs from being euthanized at the Habersham County Animal Care and Control Shelter while providing inmates with the training to teach basic dog obedience and to learn animal care and grooming skills.
Through this program, both inmates and dogs are rehabilitated, providing valuable support to our local community. The dogs are trained in basic obedience skills, are crate trained and house broken so that they are more easily adopted. The women in the program are learning valuable social and vocational skills that will help them become more productive members of their communities upon release, this reducing recidivism.

The adoption fee for all animals, adopted from the Habersham County Animal Shelter, is $110.  The price of the adoption includes:

Dogs: spay or neuter, microchip and registration, rabies vaccination, DHLPP vaccination, Bordatella vaccination, SNAP Heartworm Test, deworming and one month of complimentary, catastrophic, insurance.

Cats: spay or neuter, microchip and registration, rabies vaccination, FVRCP vaccination, FeLV/FIV Combo Test, deworming and one month of complimentary, catastrophic, insurance.

We invite you to come see all our adoptable pets here at the shelter! HCACC will often have more animals in house than posted online. If you don't see what you're looking for here, please contact us or come visit!

We are proud of our new "Play Area" for the Dogs! We encourage adopters to bring their current dogs if looking to add a new fur-member to their family so we can help you pick the right new pet for everyone in the household! Dogs can now interact with potential family members off leash in our "Adoption Pavilion"!
